To gaze upon the night sky and its vault studded with stars is to admire a kind of tapestry born of the weaving together of countless threads and motifs — those imaginary lines that form the constellations. The exhibition Voyages and Constellations immerses us in a space-time where the dreamlike photographs of artist-researcher and photographer Keren Lasme meet the contemporary tapestries that pay tribute to tradition by multidisciplinary artist Chada.
For both artists, creation is as much a necessity as a calling: an energy, a form, a force. They travel through time and space in search of moments to be held, recounting stories that hover at the boundary between dream, reality, and spirituality.
Artist-researcher and photographer Keren Lasme engages in a poetic dialogue with those around her, gradually shaping a human galaxy without judgment or limit — a constellation of everyday stories that together form the poetry of connection. In the Passage(s) series, the artist presents works whose dreamlike, timeless, and abstract aesthetic invites viewers on an initiatory journey that subtly evokes a rite of passage — the unknown, the whirlwinds of life, and the relationship with spirit and the divine. Keren reminds us that “across the world, people have used the body as a canvas to represent the crossings of their passages — birth, union, ageing, death... through scarifications of multiple, infinite, and complex forms that reveal a language of mysteries akin to that of the fractals found throughout the universe.”
Whatever the idea or point of departure — a longing for sunlight, a desire for escape, flight, wandering, or exile — travel has always been for artists a source of inspiration, influence, and exchange. Chada finds in travel an opportunity to deepen his practice, drawing inspiration from local cultures and traditional materials encountered along the way. In 2023, the artist undertook an exploratory journey across his native country, where he met local artisans. There, he rediscovered one of the country’s emblematic materials: the jute bag. Since then, the exploration of this material has become his signature, to which he lends diverse forms and combinations. Voyages et Constellations unveils a selection of tapestries that highlight some of Chada's reflections on Ivorian society.
The exhibition thus unfolds as a journey through the worlds inhabited by Keren and Chada — a collection of interconnected series where tapestry merges with photography.
