LENA MARIE EMRICH

Biography

Lena Marie Emrich is a German artist based in Brussels and Göttingen.

Emrich is drawn to life’s limbos: the interval before departure, the intimacy of a shared seat, the moment a reflection catches a body in passing. Working across sculpture, installation, performance and stage design, she brings artisanal techniques into contact with industrial processes and the visual language of the present.

Throughout her work, time remains elusive but omnipresent, held for an instant in a gesture or a form that never quite settles into balance. These moments leave room for tenderness and unease alike, asking what it means to come close to someone, to move on, or to let go.

Her solo exhibitions include I Left the Window Open for You at Kunsthalle Osnabrück (2026), Holding Tight at Import Export Gallery, Warsaw (2025), BRACE, BRACE at Office Impart, Berlin (2024), The Darkest Corners in Venice and Mainly Fair Later at Kunstverein Göttingen, among others. Her work has also been included at the Freiburg Biennale, Art Biesenthal, Sprengel Museum in Hannover, DS Gallery in Paris, Galleria Giovanni Bonelli in Milan and Galería Espacio Mínimo in Madrid. She has designed stage and costumes for productions at Schaubühne Berlin, Münchner Kammerspiele in Munich and Staatstheater Cottbus, among others. Emrich has received the Discovery Acquisition Prize at Art Brussels, the Prize of the Kunstverein Hannover and the Berlin Masters Foundation Toy Award. Her work is held in the Burger Collection, Sprengel Museum Hannover, Giancarlo Ligabue Foundation, ADAC Collection, Arndt Collection and Marval Collection. Her publications include The Darkest Corners (Floating Opera Press) and Mainly Fair Later (Resonar Verlag).
