Saint-Etienne Yeanzi is an Ivorian artist who graduated from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts d'Abidjan, the son of a university lecturer, and was surrounded by books from an early age, torn between the rigours of his studies and his passion for drawing. Initially a commissioned portraitist, he later joined the Ecole des Arts, where he finally found the ideal setting to satisfy his thirst for knowledge while expressing his first passions. Although his technique of fusing plastic is now well known to collectors and gallery owners, Saint-Etienne Yeanzi does not define himself as an aesthete any more than as an intellectual for whom painting is merely a tool of expression. His approach is based on the "relevance" of the theme, emphasising "substance" rather than "form".
