" My residency in Abidjan provided me the opportunity to see and approach things in a different way. The idea of effectively coexisting in the midst of people of a different culture, in spite of my limitations in the area of communication, expounded unto me the potential power that lies within the realm of the unknown. My experiences with the individuals in the city also exposed me to some virgin dimensions of living. This idea of synchrony between different people, and of different cultural backgrounds went a long way to influence my pieces produced during the residency. The hospitality during my residency was amazing. I was fortunate to meet a few artists, view collections of art, and also explore the city ", said James Mishio during his residency in Abidjan.
